Saving Project...

Site work and paving for a civil project in St. John's, Newfoundland. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; and water / sewer project.

https://www.saltwire.com/nova-scotia/news/final-phase-of-water-street-infrastructure-upgrades-in-downtown-st-johns-start-this-week-100837261/ ST. JOHN'S, N.L. -- The final phase of the Water Street construction project is starting on Monday, March 27, so people who use the intersections with Waldegrave Street and Prescott Street/Job's Cove may have to look for an alternative route for the next few weeks. This phase of the project will focus on those two intersections, which will be done one at a time to lessen the impact on traffic. The first phase will be the intersection of Waldegrave Street and Water Street, and it will affect the ability of people to go through that intersection. People will still be able to access all roads they can now, but it may take a little longer, depending on which direction one is coming from. Once that is completed, the work will start on the Water Street intersection with Job's Cove and Prescott Street. Coun. Ophelia Ravencroft, who represents the area on council, said the hope is this phase won't have as much of an impact as some of the previous phases, since the intersections will be done sequentially, and they plan to have one done before starting the second. Ravencroft said they understand there may be some impact on businesses downtown during the construction, but the activity in past years shows that people will still go downtown, even if it's slightly more inconvenient. "It's always a concern, of course, when something like this happens, but I think if you look at the longevity of some of the businesses downtown, and how well those first phases were dealt with, I think people want to come downtown," she said. Extensive mitigation strategies have been put in place to lessen the impact, Ravencroft said, including rerouting of some Metrobus routes, and she hopes this will encourage people to continue to come downtown in the coming weeks. Angela Snow, owner of Wild Things, reinforced what Ravencroft said about the detours going on for a few weeks, not months. "All the businesses would love your business during these renovations and it's only a short-term thing, so you don't have to worry about these conditions for long," she said. Snow said her business, and others affected by the construction, will be open the entire time and don't expect too much of an impact. Gaylynne Gulliver, marketing, special events and media relations manager with Downtown St. John's, said it's important for people to know they will still be able to access the businesses in the area and the construction won't be going on all summer. "When the contractor is working in a certain area, there's other ways that people will be able to access downtown," she said. "It's the same contractor that we've had for all phases of the development, Dexter, and they're very efficient at moving traffic and getting it going. The important thing to remember is that this is weeks and not months, so we'll have everything cleared up and ready to roll for summer and certainly downtown will be accessible throughout all that time." Gulliver said the city has been cognizant of how this project has affected businesses during every phase and in her opinion it's short-term pain for long-term gain. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Closing Time: 1:00 PM (NT) ** Please note that there has been 1 addendum issued for this RFQ. ** Question Deadline: Thu Dec 15, 2022 4:00 PM (NST) The City is seeking to prequalify general contractors for Phase 5 of construction, which includes water and sewer upgrading on Water Street in the Waldegrave Street intersection and the Prescott Street Intersection.
