Saving Project...

Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Toronto, Ontario. Completed plans call for site work for a sidewalk / parking lot; for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot; and water / sewer project.

The Treated Water Main, extending approximately 2800 m from the Island Water Treatment Plant (IWTP) to the John Street Pumping Station (JSPS), requires structural rehabilitation. The water main consists of a shallow buried riveted steel pipeline, a short section of concrete pressure pipe, a brick lined shaft at the north end of Muggs Island, 3 valve chambers and a concrete and brick lined tunnel running under the Inner Harbour of the Port of Toronto. The Work Area extends from the Metering Building at the Reservoir at the IWTP to the bottom of Shaft 1A at the JSPS. An 804 m long section of the tunnel requires the installation of a cement mortar lined steel liner pipe to prevent further deformation and deterioration due to rock squeeze. The liner pipe will be encased in cellular grout to fill the annular space around the liner pipe. The liner pipe will be installed into the tunnel through a new access shaft to be constructed in the City owned parking lot at the north west corner of Rees Street and Queens Quay. The steel pipeline section requires localized repairs of the existing cement mortar lining. There are 6 manhole risers along the length of the pipeline that require cleaning and cement mortar lining. There are 4 locations where abandoned or future connection pipes require being sealed off and filled with concrete. There are two 1829 mm gate valves that require refurbishment. A third 1829 mm gate valve will be abandoned in place and the valve chamber partially filled with tremie concrete. Valve Chamber No. 3 will be modified by raising the roof and walls by 900 mm. The surge tower on Muggs Island will be rehabilitated with prefinished metal siding. There are several minor site improvements, tree and brush removal and fencing repairs. The Rees St Parking Lot will be available for construction to start on September 1, 2020. The water main will not be available for in pipe and tunnel work until January 1, 2021. The water main must be returned to service by April 1, 2021. Cleaning and disinfection of the water main prior to return to service is part of the work. The watermain requires dewatering as part of the Work to facilitate the rehabilitation. Resurfacing of the Rees St parking lot.
