Demolition, site work, renovation and addition to a library in Avon, Ohio. Completed plans call for the addition of a library; and for the renovation of a library.

Avon, Ohio While construction continues on the 16,000-sq.-ft. addition to the Avon Branch Library, 37485 Harvest Drive, there is plenty of excitement brewing for the grand re-opening set to take place later this year. Avon library expansion January 2022 Work continues on the Avon Branch Library expansion. This month the foundation continues to be installed and work will begin on installation of the sanitary line. Steel is currently in fabrication and is expected to start going up later this month. The library is hosting a coloring book contest for all ages. To participate, download the coloring book page from the library's website (or pick up an entry form at the library). Submit your black and white, coloring book style, literary-inspired artwork (page must be printed as 11x17) by the end of June. Winners will be chosen in the following categories: Early Learners, elementary, teen, and adult. The winning artwork will be featured on the front of the Avon Branch Library Coloring Book to be released at the new building's open house. Additional entries will be selected to fill the book. There is also still time to purchase a commemorative brick paver for placement in the new reading garden at the library and have it engraved with your name or that of a loved one. Information is posted on the library's website. Work continues through the winter on the library's addition/expansion. Last month two important milestones for the project were reached: First concrete floor pour and the installation of the new power transformer. This month the foundation continues to be installed and work will begin on installation of the sanitary line. Steel is currently in fabrication and is expected to start going up later this month. AVON National Anthem performers: The Lake Erie Crushers organization is currently searching for individuals, groups, and school or church choirs/bands to perform the National Anthem at 2022 Crushers' home games. Tryouts for individuals or small groups (one-three persons) will be held April 16 at Mercy Health Stadium, 2009 Baseball Blvd. For more information, email ifarmwald@lakeeriecrushers.com. Regular library hours return: The temporary change in the Lorain Public Library System (Avon and North Ridgeville branches included) is over and all libraries are back to regular hours. The libraries are now open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday (North Ridgeville and South Lorain branches only). Play Bridge: Lake Erie Bridge offers 29 fall and 16 summer bridge groups (four-six tables) for those interested in playing bridge. Most groups play at local restaurants. Bridge play begins at 11 a.m., with 20 hands and a break for lunch. The meal can be buffet, from the menu or a selection with a set price ($10 to $17). Fall sessions meet once a month on the same day September through May. Summer sessions play five times: twice in June, twice in July, and once in August. Some evening groups are also offered. Currently there are 14 different game locations on the west side including Rocky River, Westlake, North Olmsted, Avon, Bay Village, Sheffield Village and Sheffield Lake. Preschool open house, spaghetti dinner: Holy Trinity School is hosting an Open House for those interested in more information regarding its preschool to grade 8 classes. The event is from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 30 at 2610 Nagel Road. A Spaghetti Dinner, sponsored by the PTU, will also take place at the school from noon to 6 p.m. Jan. 30. Dine-in or carry-out is available. AVON LAKE Library updates: Avon Lake Public Library officials encourage patrons to check the online events calendar for any modifications to the programming schedules. There are some upcoming programs that may have changed from in-person to virtual or postponed options, or resume as make-n-take craft kits. For information, go to alpl.org. Summer concerts: Summer will be here before you know it and the Avon Lake Parks and Recreation Department is preparing for the upcoming Party in the Park free summer concert series. Applications are currently being accepted for performers from a variety of genres that are family-friendly. As noted in the magazine, she is interesting because she 'is known for her chic buttercream cake and crispy-yet-chewy macarons, Shepard provides Clevelanders with sweets that taste like childhood but look like art. She has more than 118,000 followers on Instagram and counts Shaquille O'Neal, who gave a shout-out on her Cavs-themed sugar cookies during the 2017 NBA Finals broadcast, among her fans. NORTH RIDGEVILLE Unified basketball team: The North Ridgeville City Schools offers students with and without disabilities the opportunity to participate on the Unified Basketball team. According to information provided by a school district official, 'it (the team) was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.' For the past two years, the Unified Basketball team has grown and now has 12 students from grades 7-12 who are in the intensive needs classrooms, as well as seven student coaches. They practice once a week and the coaches plan activities, run practices, and act as role models and friends. Rec department feedback: North Ridgeville Parks and Recreation Department is looking for resident feedback regarding the Tri-Annual Program Guide. The guide has been shipped via mail or email with the residents' utility bill. Department officials are looking at a digital-only option for 2022. The feedback will help guide the department for the future for a digital option or to continue printing copies of the guide. The survey link is available on the city's website, go to nridgeville.org. Indoor walking: Get your steps this winter by walking indoors at Liberty Elementary School, 5700 Jaycox Road. The school will be open for walkers from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Masks are required. A few minor plan details are still awaiting approval. A building permit application has been issued. A firm construction timeline has not been established. The estimated project would increase the facility's current size to 25,000 square feet by adding 14,000 to 15,000 square feet with a dedicated teen space, interactive children's play area and story time room along with an open cafe and reading garden. The expansion also would include a drive-up service window with the existing structure getting a new metal roof.
