Saving Project...

Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in San Jose, California. Design plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field; sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.

Scope: park revitalization to include a café, two dog parks and a playground, among other things, in addition to the outdoor pavilion. Levitt Pavilion, a performing arts pavilion at the northeast corner of the park that would include a 4,000-square-foot stage, an adjacent support building and a large open lawn area for audience space. The city is working with the nonprofit The Friends of Levitt Pavilion San Jose, which plans to raise private funding to help cover the pavilion's cost. The pavilion would host an estimated 50 and 300 events annually, according to the draft EIR. Two dog parks in the southeast quadrant of the park. A picnic pavilion and grove area that would be located south of the Levitt Pavilion's lawn area. A one-story building consisting of a cafe and public restrooms proposed for the northeast quadrant of the park. 196 new trees and new landscaping throughout the park. There are 248 existing trees within the park, 23 of which are heritage trees. The project proposes to preserve 152 of them, including the heritage trees. In addition, North 2nd Street as part of the proposed redesign would be closed to all vehicles, and the existing bus stops for Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) bus lines 72 and 73 on North 2nd Street and North 1st Street would no longer be used. The VTA anticipates the two bus routes would be rerouted to Almaden Boulevard, Woz Way and East San Carlos Street and would utilize existing bus stops, according to the draft EIR. VTA light-rail transit on North 2nd Street would remain unchanged under the proposed project. As for parking, the project would replace 12 existing parking spaces on the eastern side of the park, along East St. James Street, with a designated loading zone for events and passenger drop-off and pick up during non-event days. As of October 4, 2022, this project is in design. No firm construction timeline has been established. *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources.
