The proposed extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT will run 9.2 kilometres from the future Mount Dennis LRT station at Scarlett Rd to Renforth Drive and will operate mainly underground, helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools and other destinations throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Phase One includes tunneling of approximately 6 kilometres of the 9.2-kilometre light rail transit extension; Design and construction of launch and extraction shafts, tunnels, as well as headwalls for emergency exit buildings and stations; Supply tunnel boring machines (TBMs) and install segmental precast concrete tunnel liners; and activities necessary to build the tunnel (e.g. utility relocations, supports for shaft and headwalls, temporary power supply, lighting, ventilation, and drainage). The project will serve as an extension of the future Line 5 and will connect Mount Dennis Station to Renforth Drive. TIMELINE: Construction work began June 2021 for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) Advance Tunnel Project as the first phase of work for the 9.2 kilometre extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (future TTC Line 5). The extension will run mostly underground, westward from the future Mount Dennis station to Renforth Drive. Requests for Proposals released April 22, 2022, for both the 1.5 km elevated guideway contract and a second advance tunnel contract for the 500m tunnel between Jane St. and Mount Dennis have closed. Acciona-GIP Joint Venture (AGJV) and STRABAG. Both teams submitted their proposals by the RFP deadlines. Submissions will be evaluated and IO and Metrolinx expect to award the ATC2 tunnelling contract in Spring 2023. A fairness monitor is overseeing the entire procurement process. Construction for the remaining scope of work, the stations, rail and systems, is expected to in 2025-2026 with separate tenders expected to be issued sequentially. Eglinton Crosstown West Extension Advance Tunnel project was awarded to West End Connectors to design, build and finance the tunnels that are needed as part of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension. Full project delivery expected in 2030 or 2031. The contract carries a fixed price of C$729.2 million (US$604.6 million). *Total project value is $4 billion.
