Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Ames, Iowa. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; sidewalk / parking lot; and water / sewer project.
Project no: 060-7570-439, 320-7570-439, 381-7570-439, NHSN-030-5(287)--2R-85 The general nature of the work on which bids are requested is: 4,383 SY of 9.5" PCC pavement, 1,061 SY of 9.5" PCC Shoulder, 202.6 SY of 6" PCC sidewalk, 36' of 24" RCP Storm Pipe, 36' of 30" RCP Storm Pipe, 144' of 42" equivalent RCP pipe, 2033' of 6", Construction and installation of new Traffic signal pole footings, traffic signal poles with mast arms, conduit, handholes, pedestrian ramps, pedestrian push button stations, controller cabinet and battery backup system at the intersection of Billy Sunday Road and US 69 and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances in accordance with the contract documents. The city manager shall announce the results of the bidding, together with recommendations thereon, to the City Council at its meeting to be held at 6:00 PM local time on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 in the Council Chambers in City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, Ames, Iowa, at which time and place the City Council will hear objections to the proposed plans, specifications, and form of contract for said 2020/21 US Highway 69 Improvements. All bids shall be submitted to said City Clerk on or before the time set herein for the bid opening. Bids shall be made on the Proposal Form furnished by the City of Ames, in a sealed and plainly marked envelope indicating it is a bid in response to this notice. Each bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8 and as specified in the Instructions to Bidders. The City of Ames reserves the right to defer acceptance of any bid for a period not to exceed sixty (60) days after receipt of bids, and no bid may be withdrawn during this period. Each successful bidder shall be required to furnish a corporate surety bond in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of its contract price. Said bond is to be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City Council, shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained, shall guarantee the prompt payment of all material and labor, protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the contract, and shall guarantee the maintenance of the improvement in good repair for a period of two (2) years from and after completion and acceptance by the City. The guaranteed maintenance period shall be four (4) years for new paving. Work shall commence as soon as possible after award and approval of the contract and performance bond. The substantial work of the project, which includes all pavement, signals, and related work shall be completed no later than the designated completion date of August 15, 2021. All remaining restoration work shall be completed no later than the designated contract completion date of September 30, 2021. Should the contractor fail to complete the work by this date, liquidated damages of $1,000 per calendar day will be assessed. The contractor shall not include sales or use taxes in the bid. Pursuant to the Iowa Code and Iowa Administrative Code, the contractor will be authorized to purchase building materials that will be incorporated into real property on this project tax-free. Iowa Construction Sales Tax Exemption Certificates will be issued by the City, which will authorize suppliers of building materials to sell materials exempt from Iowa sales tax and any applicable local option sales tax and school infrastructure local option sales tax to the entity listed on the certificate. Upon award of the contract, the successful contractor will be required to provide their project information, and information for each subcontractor and supplier requiring exemption certificates. The City does hereby reserve the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into such contract, or contracts, as it shall deem to be in the best interest of the City. By virtue of statutory authority, preference will be given to products and provisions grown, and coal produced, within the State of Iowa, and to Iowa labor, to the extent lawfully required under Iowa statutes. The City of Ames, Iowa, in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 78 Stat. 252, 42 U.S.C. 2000d 4 and Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, Department of Transportation, Subtitle A, Office of Secretary, Part 21, Nondiscrimination in Federally assisted programs of the Department of Transportation issued pursuant to such Act, hereby notifies all bidders that it will affirmatively insure that in any contract entered into pursuant to this advertisement, minority business enterprises will be afforded full opportunity to submit bids in response to this invitation and will not be discriminated against on the grounds of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in consideration for an award.
