Construct a grade-separate interchange at this intersection. Highway No. 56 meets Highway No. 1 at an un-signalized, at-grade intersection and provides access to the town of Indian Head. Highway No. 56 has seen increased traffic volumes and is a highly used route for recreational traffic to and from the Katepwa and Mission Lakes area. The goal of the study is to prepare updated functional plans for Highway No. 1 and Highway No. 56 considering existing constraints and future developments and optimizing the interchange configuration and any required road realignments. The analysis should include the land values for this location and should endeavor to select a cost effective grade separated interchange that will provide minimal but adequate right-of-way. The analysis will also address all existing and potential future frontage roads and access to existing and future developments. Stakeholder consultations with the Town of Indian Head, Rural Municipality of Indian Head No. 156 and area developers will be required to understand existing and future land uses and needs. TIMELINE: RFP for a consultant to provide engineering services for the functional design of an interchange at the junction of Highway No 1 and Highway No 56 as well as a functional design for any changes required to the alignment of Highway No 56 has been awarded. Consultant is completing a Functional Planning Study. A Public Information Centre presented three possible Options for the site. The Consultant will now evaluate the Feedback from the Survey and Determine Preferred Option and Refine the Design. Virtual Public Meeting will be held and a Final Report is expected late 2022.
