This is a notice to all Metropolitan Utilities District water main Contractors and is meant to be both a refresher and a reminder of trace wire requirements. The District requests that all water main Contractors review the Construction Standard 1.14.1 Installation of Trace Wire on Water Mains. The District would also like to remind all water main Contractors that as part of the water main installation all trace wire should be installed to our standards. Trace wire shall allow for continuous locating of the entire water main and required apparatuses. Inspection and verification of the installed trace wire will be completed prior to final payment. Payment will be withheld if inadequate installation or breaks in trace wire are evident until the Contractor satisfactorily completes all required repairs. The District has made changes to the Construction Standards including; additional shoring installation requirements (Construction Standard 0.3.0), which shall be required for locations where District employees are to enter an excavation, and revisions to the installation of polyethylene encasement on cast iron or ductile iron pipe and fittings (Construction Standard 1.12.1).
