College of Medicine West Tower is a 6 story classroom, building located on UIC's West campus at 1853 W. Polk Street. This project will install a new air handling unit (AHU), and construct two new dormers in the existing attic space locate on the 6th floor of the building. The AHU will be furnished by the Owner. The contractor will be responsible for installation and warranty of the unit. This work will integrate with a recent project on the 5th floor of Building 908 (College of Medicine West). For that reason, the AHU must be functional no later than January 15, 2021. It is expected that construction on the remainder of the project will continue until substantial completion. The demolition scope of work includes removal of the existing air handling unit, associated ductwork, electrical and ventilation systems, portions of the existing roof and structure to accommodate the new dormers, and portions of the 5th floor ceiling in buildings 908 and 909. New work will include the installation of a new air handling unit (AHU), provided by the Owner, electrical work and control wiring from a local distribution panel in the attic space of Building 909, associated ductwork in Buildings 908 and 909 that will serve the 5th floor spaces. In addition, two new dormers will be constructed in Building 909, and fire alarm and lighting will be re-installed on the 5th floor of buildings 908 and 909. This Project is located at: 6th Floor penthouse of the 909 building located at 1853 W. Polk. The new ductwork will need to connect via the 6th floor to the 908 building located at 1819 W. Polk. Each bidder shall prequalify with the Owner in accordance with the General Instructions to Bidders (Document 00 20 00). Alternates, if considered, will be accepted in any order as determined by the Owner. By the end of the cure period, Bidder shall submit an updated utilization plan and updated documentation of their good faith efforts to achieve the MBE/WBE goals, if the goals are not met. Failure to submit such documentation or to use good faith efforts, shall result in rejection of the bid. Good faith effort documentation is not required when diversity goals have been met. Bidders are required to use any and all good faith efforts to meet the diversity goal prior to the time of bid submittal. Bid submittals that do not meet the goal in its entirety must include submission of good faith efforts documentation, including bidders pricing for each diverse subcontractor identified, at the time of bid submittal. These efforts should demonstrate that every attempt to negotiate and secure diverse business participation was made prior to the bid. Bids with zero or low levels of participation at the time of bid may be determined to have not demonstrated good faith efforts and may be found non-responsive. Bidders that fall short of meeting the goal and demonstrate acceptable good faith efforts at the time of bid submittal will be considered with the additional efforts achieved within the 10 day cure period The successful bidder will be required to comply with all laws, statutes, regulations, ordinances, rulings or enactments of any governmental authority that are applicable to the work or to the project.
