The scope of work is further detailed in the specifications and includes restoration of existing BPL McKim Building Courtyard pool, including removal and replacement of waterproof membrane, marble mosaic tile, fountain lighting, new electrical system, and new UV filtration system. SCOPE OF WORK A. The work under this Contract consists generally of the renovation of an existing historical fountain to replace a deteriorating concrete slab, mosaic tile, and fountain spray and lighting systems, in accordance with the Contract Documents. The Work includes all alterations and renovations of the fountain and its surrounds, and incidental work within the building, as indicated, specified or otherwise required for successful completion of the Work, complete and ready for use and occupancy by the Owner, without limitation. The following is a summary of the major elements of the Work: 1. Selective demolition and removal of indicated existing construction, as necessary for indicated repairs and alterations. This includes temporary removal, storage, and refurbishing of indicated items for reinstallation under this Contract. Refer to Drawings and Division 02 Section "Selective Demolition" for scope of demolition, temporary removal, refurbishment, and reinstallation work. Demolition and removal includes removal and disposal of fountain piping, devices and electrical systems as indicated related to this facility. Work includes: intact removal and salvage of the central statue and pedestal, vertical marble curb facing and their temporary storage and refurbishment, and their reinstallation in sequence with the work; and removal of the concrete slab installed over the original slab in a 1999 remodeling project. The existing original nineteenth century concrete base slab and foundations of the fountain pool are to remain, repaired or altered as necessary. 2. Improvements include: the replacement of the removed concrete slab with a new waterproof concrete slab; the construction of a circular concrete curb surrounding the statue pedestal; the replacement of the existing marble mosaic tile; the installation of new fountain jets and lighting; and the partial replacement of infrastructure for the fountain water and electrical systems required to operate the fountain. As part of this infrastructure, new routes must be drilled between the existing mechanical room and the fountain for new conduit and piping to serve the fountain. 3. Installation of membrane waterproofing and related joint sealants of the entire fountain pool. 4. Incidental alterations of existing building systems as indicated or required for proper function of the fountain systems. 5. New electrical systems, equipment, devices, fixtures and appurtenances, including alterations of existing building systems as indicated or required. B. The work of this Contract includes all work either shown on the Drawings or included in the Specifications unless specifically marked "N.I.C." or "by others." C. The work includes the restoration to its original condition of any work damaged or destroyed by improper activities of the Contractor whether within or beyond indicated or agreed upon limits of work. D. The work includes the provision of all required temporary construction and facilities, and their prompt removal when no longer required for this work. All temporary facilities will be subject to approval of the Owner and Architect, will be located and constructed to avoid all interference with the Work, and will be kept in orderly and sound condition at all times. E. The work includes all necessary coordination of construction operations with owners of adjacent properties and governmental having jurisdiction over adjacent public ways and over vehicular routes providing access to the site. LOCATION A. The Project is located at the Courtyard of the historic McKim Building in the existing Boston Public Library Central Branch building at 700 Boylston Street, Boston, Massachusetts.
