As of July 2025, the project has been delayed. The project is in the environmental evaluation process. The owner is in the process of selecting a site for the new bridge, which is expected to be located south of Louisiana's capital city. Timing for construction completion of this project is heavily dependent upon funding availability and construction contracting type. *The previous solicitation is listed below for reference. --- Act 488 of the 2018 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature created the Capital Area Road and Bridge District (CARB-D) “for the purpose of raising revenue to finance road and bridge projects to alleviate traffic congestion in the” five-parish Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area comprised of Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Livingston, and West Baton Rouge Parishes. One of the projects that CARB-D must pursue is a new “south” Mississippi River Bridge with a connection to Interstate 10 on the west side of the Mississippi River and a connection to, and widening of, LA 30 on the east side of the Mississippi River. A new “south” Mississippi River Bridge and approaches is currently envisioned to be a conventional highway/expressway facility connecting to LA 1 on the west side of the Mississippi River and to LA 30 on the east side of the Mississippi River; connectors from Interstate 10 to the bridge on the west side of the Mississippi River, and the widening of LA 30 will be handled through separate, independent projects. It is further envisioned that the new facility will be funded in part through the collection of tolls.
