The Collins Island Bridge, built in 1953, is still serviceable but is approaching the end of its useful lifetime. A storm water pump station, currently in design with an anticipated design completion by Spring 2024, will be located on Park Avenue close to Collins Island Bridge and will have discharge outlets located within the east abutment of the new bridge. The replacement bridge shall be designed per current bridge code requirements with a bridge deck elevation raised by 2 to 3 feet above existing (see Attachment 1) to address anticipated sea level rise. The bridge will be designed for two-way traffic and a sidewalk on one side. The roadway approaches on both sides of the bridge would be raised accordingly along with the adjacent sidewalks. See Attachment 2 for project area. The new bridge will be designed to connect to the existing adjacent seawalls. As an option, on the east end of the bridge (on Balboa Island), the pump station may be designed to connect to new seawalls constructed just outside the existing seawalls, with a top of wall elevation of 10 feet NAVD88. The new seawalls would be designed to allow a future cap extension to Elevation 14 feet. The sidewalks adjacent to the new seawalls would also be raise. It is the sole responsibility of the Bidder to ensure that their Bid is submitted through the City of Newport Beach PlanetBids portal before the stated deadline.
