Saving Project...

Renovation of a mixed-use development in Seattle, Washington. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility; and 30,000-square-foot library.

As of 8/31/21 this project has moved into Phase 2 - Design Project Manager: Regi Hampton, Project Manager, Project Delivery Group EM: regihamp@uw.edu PH: (206) 685-6389, Customer Contact: Patrick Osby EM: po2@uw.edu PH: (206) 616-0166 The University of Washington (University or UW) is soliciting Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) from qualified design-build teams (which may include joint ventures) to design and construct the Libraries Offsite Shelving and iSchool Retrofit. To ensure long-term, responsible stewardship of the Libraries’ distinctive and valuable collections, UW Libraries has undertaken an initiative to relocate some collections offsite to Sand Point in order to both better serve the collection stewardship mission and to free up space on campus for student and faculty study and collaboration space. New collection shelving space at Sand Point will provide safe, climate-controlled space not susceptible to water damage for valuable library collections. The newly available space in Allen South first floor will then provide a temporary home for the iSchool, including office space for faculty and staff, classrooms, and research space. Project scope includes design and construction of 30,000 ASF off-site shelving space on the fourth floor of Sand Point Building 5D and relocation of Libraries collections currently on campus as directed by UW Libraries to free up Allen South 1st floor. Project will also include renovation of Allen South 1st Floor for temporary use by the iSchool (until a more permanent location is available) and minor changes to the iSchool space in Mary Gates Hall (renovating existing third-floor spaces to accommodate faculty offices, research labs, and teaching/learning spaces). In accordance with RCW 39.10.300, et seq., the UW will utilize a progressive design-build approach for the procurement and delivery of the project, meaning that the Design-Builder will be selected primarily on the basis of qualifications. This approach does not require design or a complete project price proposal during the selection process. The selected Design-Builder will work collaboratively with the UW in the complete development and delivery of the project. The UW fully embraces the principles of collaboration and integrated project delivery that emphasize a cooperative approach to problem solving. Toward that end, the UW expects the design-build team, as part of the project team, to deliver this project by creating a culture of open and honest communication, utilizing Lean principles efficiently and effectively, and establishing a collaborative environment where the project team contributes its best efforts for the benefit of the project as a whole.
