See Figures 1 and 2 for a location map and site plan. The Caloosahatchee Estuary Basin is impaired for nutrients and dissolved oxygen, and an adopted Basin Management Action Plan (BMAP) is implementing the reduction target for Total Nitrogen (TN) identified in the adopted Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL). This project seeks to evaluate, design, permit and construct modifications to the Caloosahatchee River Tributary L-3 Canal system for water quality and nutrient reduction strategies. The Grantee will retrofit the L-3 Canal to improve water quality and provide flood protection for upstream developments that discharge to the canal. Activities may include: reshaping and stabilizing bank slopes to reduce potential for sedimentation and erosion; creation of offline retention and detention areas; removal of invasive vegetation; installation of control structure(s); and retrofitting adjacent discharge structures according to best management practices.
