Renovation of a water / sewer project in Roanoke, Virginia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a water / sewer project.

The Western Virginia Water Authority seeks bids from responsible contractors to provide construction services under a written single prime contract for Digester Upgrades and Rehabilitation for Western Virginia Water Authority's (WVWA) Roanoke Regional Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP). As specified hereinafter, the Contractor shall furnish all the necessary labor, materials, and equipment, to drain and perform a complete cleaning of both existing primary digesters and a secondary digester including, but not limited to, the removal of sludge, liquid, grit, screenings, sludge and floatables for disposal to a permitted site. The Contractor shall coordinate all phases of the work included herein with both the Authority and the Engineer. The Authority has already agreed to a scope of services (attached to the Project Manual) with the preselected draining contractor, Bio-Nomic Services (BioNomic). The Contractor is responsible for paying for and coordinating Bio-Nomic's services. These services (by Bio-Nomics) are specific to draining the digester tanks of sludge and shall not be misconstrued for cleaning. The WPCP has onsite sludge lagoons that can be used to drain digested sludge. However, any grit, screenings, rags and floatables are not permitted in the sludge lagoons. Hereinafter the grit, rags, plastics, screenings, and floatables will be referred to simply as residuals. The Contractor is responsible for removing all residuals from the digester walls, columns, floor slab, roof slab to perform repairs and/or replacement. Utility water is available at a pressure of 65-75 psig and the Contractor shall coordinate the usage of utility water for his cleaning operations with the Authority. A yard hydrant is located near the filter building adjacent to the digester complex. The Contractor shall furnish and install all connections, pumps, piping, fittings, hoses, etc. as required to complete the work. The Authority will provide utility water at no charge to the Contractor. A backflow preventer is not required for utility water. The Contractor will be required to provide a temporary ramp for vehicular access over the utility water hose.
