Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a 26,000-square-foot data center facility; and educational facility.

Plans call for a new research centre in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta and a field station approx. 350 up the north fork on the east bank of the of Quatre Fourches River in Wood Buffalo National Park. The facility will serve as an environmental research and monitoring science institute led by indigenous knowledge centre that works to ensure the restoration, protection and promotion of the ecological health and cultural integrity in the Peace Athabasca Delta and its people, through holistic and culturally-relevant research, planning, monitoring, stewardship and community engagement. As the Field Station is in WBNP will need to be designed to ensure compliance to any specific PCA building requirements. At this time, programming for two separate approaches has been proposed.: Option A - Single Site Development in Fort Chipewyan with Field Station in WBNP, and Option B - Two Site Development in Fort Chipewyan with Field Station in WBNP. TIMELINE: The consultant was in engaged in 2021 to undertake site selection, detail program development, conceptual design, and schematic design services. Conceptual planning is ongoing. Scope of work and schedules for design, tender and construction to be determined. Further update may be available mid-/late 2024. NOTE: The three Indigenous communities of Fort Chipewyan the Mikisew Cree First Nation (MCFN), the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (ACFN); and the Fort Chipewyan Metis Association (FCMA) are involved in the development of this project. *Pre-feasibility study has been completed by Stantec. Construction cost estimated at $8.97 million, total project cost is $12.27 million.
