Expand and renovate the Yorktown Library. Expansion is an addition that is approximately 10,000 sf. Renovations of existing building is included. The County of York, Virginia (Owner) is seeking the services of a professional contractor to expand and renovate the Yorktown Library, located at 8500 George Washington Memorial Hwy, Yorktown, VA 23692. The Contractor shall furnish all materials, labor, tools, equipment, etc., to complete the project in accordance with the drawings and specifications. The existing single-story building is approximately 12,225 sf and was constructed in 1983 as a library. The work includes a near complete renovation of the existing building and includes reconfiguration of the Staff space for a larger Workroom, two new Offices, an IT room, Storage, and single-user Staff Restroom, and other Work indicated in the Contract Documents. The new construction includes an addition that is approximately 10,000 sf, allows for a large, enclosed, Children's area with a dedicated program room, a large community meeting room that can be divided into two smaller rooms, a prominent Adult Reading Room, an open and flexible Lobby with a Cafe. The work includes new HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as, a new fire suppression system throughout the addition and existing building. The parking lot will be reconfigured and expanded and the drive aisle off Route 17 will be replaced with heavy duty pavement. Other Work indicated in the Contract Documents. It is the Owner's intent to close the existing library to the public in June, 2021 so that the contents of the building can be removed and then to begin the work of this contract in July. The project will be bid as a Lump Sum. The entire project shall reach Substantial Completion within 365 days from Notice to Proceed.
