RIDOT - RFQ - Design Build Bridge Group 51B - Route 37 C-3
RFP #7611883PH2A2 1. Replacement of five bridges and preservation of one bridge in Bridge Group 51B in the vicinity
of the Route 37/Interstate 295 interchange in Cranston.
2. Construction of a new bridge carrying Route 37 EB to I-295 NB (Ramp E-N) over I-295 NB,
thereby improving safety and reducing conflicting movements.
3. Creating a third lane on I-295 NB with new pavement and minor widening, to treat as an
auxiliary lane from Route 37 to the Phenix Avenue overpass.
4. Continuing that third lane under the Phenix Avenue overpass to US 6.
5. Repositioning the I-295 NB ramp to Route 37 WB (Ramp N-W) to eliminate the potential for a
conflicting weave with the new flyover ramp.
6. Widening the Route 37 WB ramp to I-295 NB (Ramp W-N) to improve sight lines and reduce
crashes.
7. Tying into the construction of the ongoing RIDOT safety improvements along Route 37 WB
approaching the Natick Avenue intersection to calm traffic and reduce speed-related crashes.
