Location: Swampscott Project Type: Highway - Construction Federal Aid No.: HSI-003S(220)X MASSDOT - Intersection Improvements and Related Work (Including Signals) Route 1A (Paradise Road) at Swampscott Mall Road The proposed project consists of safety enhancements along Route 1A (Paradise Road) in the Town of Swampscott, near its intersection with Swampscott Mall Road. The project includes minor full depth pavement widening of the roadway and full reconstruction of the traffic signal system at the Paradise Road/Swampscott Mall Road intersection. Traffic sign and pavement marking improvements, and the reconstruction of the sidewalk in cement concrete and construction of compliant wheelchair ramps are also part of the Project. The existing road surface will be milled and resurfaced. New crosswalks will be provided across the two driveway legs of the intersection. In addition, the existing mid-block crosswalk 700 feet north of the intersection will be reconstructed and enhanced with a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon. Bicycle accommodations consisting of a usable shoulder will be provided. The work also includes traffic signal timing adjustments at 6 locations to improve traffic signal coordination between the intersections. The existing traffic signal interconnect cable and conduit along Route 1A shall be retained. The existing traffic signal interconnect cable shall be re-installed in the new traffic signal control cabinet proposed as part of the Project
