Per the owner, as of May 9, 2022, a design team has been selected. The owner states that they are in the project approval and environmental documentation (PA&ED) phase with Caltrans. The owner states that construction is antiipated to begin in 2025-2027, funding dependent. The owner states that a general contractor will be selected at a later time in the project. Midpen is seeking to retain a civil engineering firm to evaluate, design, and lead the permitting for a proposed multi-use trail connection from the Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve (Preserve) through the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) right of way (ROW) (Attachment 1: Map of Caltrans ROW in Project Area) and across the Bear Creek Road/SR 17 overcrossing (Attachment 2: Project Area Map). The planned multi-use trail crossing will connect the trail network under construction in the Preserve to Lexington Reservoir County Park. Preliminary design recommendations for the multi-use trail crossing improvements have been prepared by engineering consultants and include a staircase, curb ramps, additional and modified crosswalks, modified intersection striping, and sign, guardrail, and fire hydrant relocation. The staircase will cross underneath existing Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) overhead powerlines. Additional improvements will need to be designed within the Caltrans ROW for the southwest corner of the SR 17 South Ramps-Montevina Road/Bear Creek Road intersection to address drainage and illegal parking issues. There will be no formal site tour as part of this RFPQ, however firms may choose to visit the portion of the project area that is within the public right of way.
