Site work, paving and renovation of a mixed-use development in Montpelier, Vermont. Completed plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility; for site work for a municipal facility; museum; museum; water / sewer project; sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.
The Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site is at 3780 Route 100A in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. It is preserved and maintained by the Vermont Division of Historic Preservation (DHP) and is a National Historic Landmark. Calvin Coolidge was the 30th president of the United States. The site preserves his birthplace, the room he took his oath of presidency in after President Harding's death, his summer White House office, and associated village buildings. The site contains original materials on display for the public and is open from Memorial Day to midOctober, Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm. It is closed and mostly unheated during the winter months with all furnishings remaining in the buildings, except for the year-round post office and cheese factory. This project includes work at the Cilley General Store with attached USPS facility and Birthplace, the Wilder Barn, Calvin Coolidge Homestead, the Wilder House, and Visitor's Center. It also includes improvements to site pathways and drainage structures. 3.1 The Cilley General Store (pre-1835) and the attached Coolidge Birthplace require new cedar shingle roofs and wall weather barriers. 3.2 Six brick chimneys require reconstruction and/or repairs and capping at four buildings. All repairs are exterior. 3.3 The Wilder Barn was reconstructed in 2003. Rotten wood in contact with the soil and portions of the sill require replacement. 3.4 Portions of the Coolidge Homestead's historic field stone foundation require reconstruction. Associated sitework is required for durability and drainage improvements. 3.5 New flooring in portions of the Homestead. 3.6 Stone pathway and parking improvements. 3.7 Sitework involving raising storm drains at asphalt paved drives. 3.8 Removal of a historic wooden flagpole and packaging for shipment to a conservator. 3.9 The construction phasing should allow occupancy of the sites (in part or in whole) and limit closure to the public where the buildings are open for the season. The site receives visitors throughout the year. Some buildings may be closed due to the pandemic for the 2022 season. The post office is a tenant in the Cilley General Store building and has additional security and scheduling limitations, it is open year-round and must remain in operation during normal business hours. 3.10 The following work shall be performed by others in coordination with the CM scope of work: 3.10.1 Earthwork at the Homestead requires archeological investigation and observation during excavation of sensitive areas. The State of Vermont will be responsible for contracting or providing archeology services. The scope of this work and impact to the project schedule is pending initial test pits scheduled to commence as soon as the ground thaws in the Spring 2022. The project estimate, which includes all pre-construction and construction services, costs and fees, General Conditions, Cost of Work, and project contingencies, is $625,000. *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.
