As of May 31, 2023, this project is in schematic design. An architect has been selected; however, a general contractor or selection method is not disclosed. Construction is estimated to begin December of 2024 or early 2025. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The scope of this project is for a new 20,000 GSF, multi-purpose cultural arts venue located at 842 West Gate City Boulevard. The goal is to foster an active partnership between UNC Greensboro with the surrounding local and regional arts community. UNC Greensboro shares a place, a fate, and a responsibility to contribute to the vibrancy of the larger community and views the project as part of this initiative. The project will include demolition of the existing building, a flexible performance space, gallery, instructional and practice rooms, office and administrative space, a retail component, as well as underground parking to support the needs of the venue. The proposed building sits at an important gateway to the campus and serves as a connection point to the Millennial District and surrounding municipality. Sustainability, construction efficiency and delivery, and cradle-to-grave eco balance will all be considered utilizing a modest overall project budget. Current project authorization is for advance planning only. The selected firm may be retained through full design and construction at the university's option.
