Saving Project...

Site work, paving and new construction of a mixed-use development in Lubbock, Texas. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a fire / police facility; for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.

Nearly $41.5 million of the entire bond package would be for Broadway. The rest of the $174.5 million bond package would be for road projects across the city, the majority outside Loop 289. The other proposed street projects included in the bond package are: Widen Erskine St. between Ave. S and I-27 Rebuild 34th St. between Ave. Q and I-27 Widen 82nd St. between I-27 and MLK Jr. Blvd. Rebuild 34th St. between I-27 and Ave. A Rebuild 34th St. between Quaker Ave. and Slide Rd. Widen 114th St. between Indiana Ave. and city limits east of University Ave. Widen 114th St. between Frankford Ave. and Slide Rd. Widen Milwaukee Ave. between CR 6430 and 4th St. Widen MLK Jr. Blvd. between Loop 289 and 82nd St. Widen University Ave. between 98th St. and 114th St. Widen 98th St. between Upland Ave. and Alcove Widen Upland Ave. between 4th St. and 19th St. The three projects are $7.6 million for a new fire station in South Lubbock, $11.3 million to widen Erskine Street from the west city limits to Frankford Avenue, and $9 million to pave a total of about 5 miles of dirt roads across the city. The proposed Fire Station 20 will be located south of the future Loop 88, between Avenue P and Indiana Avenue. The $9 million will fund about 35 sections of unpaved streets across the city. Griffith says these streets are long overdue. Broken down by district, about two miles are in District 2, one mile each is in Districts 1 and 5, and Districts 4 and 6 will feature about 1/2 mile of pavement on currently unpaved roads. These bonds together, the $27.9 million non-voter approved bond and the $174.5 million bond if voters approve it, would increase the city's tax rate at its peak by 3.31 cents, according to information presented to the city council. As of June 22, 2022, this bond vote failed. *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources.
