Completed plans call for the renovation of a laboratory facility; for the demolition of a laboratory facility; for the construction of a six-story above grade laboratory facility; and for site work for a laboratory facility.

Modernize and redevelop the existing gulf fisheries centre as part of a program of work related to the laboratories Canada (LC) initiative to accommodate the Atlantic Science Enterprise Centre (ASEC). The facility is expected to bring together scientists focused on protecting and sustaining Atlantic freshwater and coastal ecosystems. Scientists from the following agencies are expected: Fisheries & Oceans Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and the National Research Council of Canada. The Canadian Space Agency will be a virtual partner. Project include a large demolition component and the construction of a new building. TIMELINE: Scope of work, including the square footage for the new build as well as the number of storeys have yet to be confirmed. The Construction Manager has mobilized on-site to complete enabling works for the new build. All tender packages over 100,000 will be through a prequalified process; some packages have been released for the early works. The next prequalification package is expected 1-3 months for foundation works. Construction for the new build will likely begin summer 2024. Completion is currently projected for late 2027, however this timeline is subject to change. *The design contract is $23.6 million. *The initial construction management contract is $5.6 million. *Project has currently been estimated at upwards of $350 million.
