Construction of an approximate 42,000 sq ft, six-storey affordable rental housing project for Wigwamen Incorporated on a property located at 525 Markham Road, Scarborough, ON. Wigwamen is developing a site for a new 62-unit affordable housing building at 525 Markham Road, Scarborough, Ontario. The building will contain 62 one-bedroom deeply affordable rental units, 13 of which will be fully accessible for persons with disabilities/mobility challenges to help address the lack of accessible and affordable units in Toronto, ON. The six-storey building will face onto Markham Road and partly extend over an existing at-grade and underground parking garage. The above-grade structure will be a precast concrete slab and column system. The building envelope will be highly energy efficient, consisting primarily of prefabricated metal-clad insulated wall assembly panels. The building has been modelled to achieve very low energy usage, with space heating comprising only about 6% of the building's energy usage. Building structure is structural steel / precast concrete slabs. *Award amount was not released for publication.
