Sitterly Road is a major route between Clifton Park and Halfmoon, with the bridge carrying an average of more than 15,000 vehicles daily. It will be closed for about two months in summer 2022 when the temporary bridge is removed and replaced. Businesses in the immediate vicinity of the bridge include Ellis Medicine Emergent & Urgent Care, Stewart's Shops, Exit 9 Self-Storage and a dental practice. "It's certainly not going to be good for us, or anybody else," J. Eric King, owner of the self-storage, said of the bridge closure. Traffic will be detoured to Route 146 via Crossing Boulevard on the east side and Clifton Park Center Road/Clifton Country Road on the west side. The bridge was damaged April 14 when a boom lift on a truck trailer struck the overpass. The lift fell and temporarily blocked traffic between Exits 9 and 8A, snarling roads in the area. The driver was ticketed by the State Police. The damaged span had to be demolished and a temporary structure installed. The bridge reopened May 8. The bridge had a vertical clearance of 14-feet-4-inches prior to the collision. The new bridge will have a clearance of at least 16-feet-6-inches, which exceeds federal interstate standards, according to the DOT. The new bridge will have wider shoulders and a sidewalk on the north side, providing a link to future sidewalks along Sitterly Road, according to the DOT. Design is underway for the new bridge. The cost hasn't been determined.
