Renovation of a medical facility in Cincinnati, Ohio. Completed plans call for the renovation of a medical facility.
As of August 12 this is in construction per lead resource Former Shriner’s Hospital Transforms into Comprehensive Blood Cancer Healing Center A facility in Ohio that was formerly a hospital for Shriner’s has been transformed into the Blood Cancer Healing Center, a new space for patients served by the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center. The existing masonry façade has been sealed and restored, preserving the building’s historical integrity while ensuring modern functionality. The facility offers every aspect of care — from inpatient and outpatient services to survivorship, integrative medicine, spiritual support and cutting-edge research — all under one roof. The project team included Skanska and Champlin Architecture. The 218,000-square-foot renovation project includes significant building upgrades and enhancements to meet UC Health and the University of Cincinnati’s standards. Additionally, the project involved renovating the adjacent 197,000-square-foot parking garage, providing improved access and convenience for patients, staff and visitors. The facility encompasses inpatient and outpatient care settings, including 30 inpatient beds, outpatient and infusion clinics, along with survivorship and supportive services. An extended care area offers round-the-clock outpatient symptom support for all cancer patients. The University of Cincinnati will occupy the fourth and fifth floors for research purposes, while UC Health will utilize the remaining three floors for treatment and patient care. The fourth and fifth floors of the facility will expand to include a retail pharmacy, blood cancer research labs, integrative medicine and survivorship wellness programs to complement patient care. The work on the first three floors is around 75% complete as of the Dec. 12 board meeting. ____________________________ Submit all questions regarding this RFQ in writing to Andrew Bleuel at andrew.bleuel@uc.edu with the project number included in the subject line (no phone calls please) The University of Cincinnati will be acquiring the Shriners Children's Hospital Building and the attached parking structure, located at 3229 Burnet Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45229. The building was built between 1990-1992 and consists of approximately 225,000 gross square feet (gsf) of building space with approximately 145,000 gsf of concrete parking structure. There are clinical exam rooms, patient rooms, laboratories, animal housing facilities, administrative offices, auditorium, cafeteria, kitchen, and an operating suite within the building. This building will need to be integrated into several of The University's existing systems: IT/Telecom, building controls, fire alarm, access control/security, and parking controls. Additional work may be required to update the existing IT through out the building as it was constructed at a time when IT closets did not exist so new closets will need to be created. Additional work will be required to rekey all doors, possibly replacing existing door hardware, to match The University's system, replacement of existing building signage, and possible modifications to existing hospital and laboratory spaces for new researcher and occupants. Additionally, as part of this work an audit of some of the building systems and equipment will be conducted, specifically the existing boilers, chillers, and cooling towers. As part of this audit a Life Cycle Cost analysis of connecting the buildings chilled water and steam systems to the East Campus Utility Plant (ECUP) will need to be completed. Structural assessment of the parking garage will also need to be completed as part of this project. The selected Architect/Engineer (A/E) will also assist in finalization of the Program of Requirements (POR) for this project. The selected A/E, as a portion of its required Scope of Services and prior to submitting its proposals, will discuss and clarify with the Owner and/or the Contracting Authority, the cost breakdown of the Architect/Engineer Agreement detailed cost components to address the Owner's project requirements. Participate in the Encouraging Growth, Diversity & Equity (EDGE) Program as required by statute and the Agreement.
