**As of July 1 2021, the project has been awarded to Beckstrom Construction for $413,608.50. The start and the end date has not yet been determined. A public hearing will be held by the City of Onawa, Iowa, on the proposed contract documents (plans, specifications and form of contract) and estimated cost for the improvement at its meeting at 7:00 PM on June 8, 2021, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 914 Diamond Street, Onawa, Iowa, for the 2021 Onawa Electrical Distribution System Improvements - Phase II. The work shall commence on the day indicated in the Notice to Proceed and shall be substantially completed on or before April 12, 2022 and completed and ready for final payment in accordance with Paragraph 15.06 of the General Conditions on or before May 10, 2022. Should the Contractor fail to complete the work in this timeframe, liquidated damages of $250.00 per calendar day will be assessed to the work not completed within the designated contract term. Each bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Iowa Code Chapter 26, Section 26.8, and as specified by the City of Onawa, Iowa, in the amount fixed in the Instructions to Bidders. By virtue of statutory authority, preference will be given to products and provisions grown and coal produced within the State of Iowa, and to Iowa domestic labor, to the extent lawfully required under Iowa statutes. The general nature of the public improvement is Labor only to upgrade areas of existing 2.4 kV electrical distribution system to 13.2Y/7.62 kV utilizing underground construction standard(s). The successful bidder will be required to furnish bonds in an amount equal to one-hundred percent (100 percent) of the contract price, said bonds to be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City Council and shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and terms and conditions therein contained and shall guarantee the prompt payment for all materials and labor and protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of Contractor.
