This memorandum provides the final structural pavement recommendations for the Lake McDonald roadway rehabilitation. The scope of the project has changed and additional information is provided in this memorandum. The Park has allocated additional funding to this roadway segment to provide a full rehabilitation of the roadway and address isolated shoulder widening to mitigate vehicle off tracking. The overall final elevation of the roadway will be decreased by 2 inches to facilitate the widening and provide an opportunity to address the roadway profile. A subgrade investigation was conducted in October 2019. Boring logs indicated existing asphalt concrete pavement depths between 6 to 9 inches, with the majority of the depths being 7 inches. The base and subgrade materials were described primarily as well graded gravel with sand and silty sand with gravel. These descriptions indicate good granular material to provide support for the pavement structure. The following are the recommended roadway structures.
