Demolition, site work, new construction and renovation of a laboratory facility in North Saanich, British Columbia. Completed plans call for site work for a laboratory facility; for the renovation of a laboratory facility; for the demolition of a laboratory facility; and for the construction of a 83,000-square-foot, two-story above grade laboratory facility.

PQ #002: Subcontractor Prequalification. PCL LAB SOLUTIONS, A JV (PCL), acting as Construction Manager for the Western Regional Projects, is initiating a process to prequalify proponents for the project. As part of this process, proponents will be required to prequalify to meet the specific requirements of this project. Only proponents considered by PCL to meet the prequalification requirements will be eligible to submit a bid for this project. The Sidney Centre for Plant Health (SCPH) is to be a world-class research facility which will provide federal scientists and partners with state-of-the-art space and equipment to collaborate on research opportunities, and to protect Canada's plant resources, while supporting the agriculture and agri-food sector. Owned and funded by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), this Science Facility will serve as a model of good implementation practice for Laboratories Canada. The SCPH Science Facility will focus on preventing the introduction and spread of plant virus diseases and acts as an important and strategic mechanism for the safe introduction of foreign plant material into Canada. This Science Facility will be a Plant Pest Containment (PPC) laboratory and greenhouse, intended to consolidate existing buildings at the Sidney Site and to provide future growth and expansion. The two-storey building is to be located on a sloped Site, enabling the lab, header house and greenhouse functions to be connected at the same level, with each area having the opportunity for a walkout basement. The building is intended to be approximately 4,500m2 gross floor area, including 25% future expansion space. Science Partner spaces are to be within the administrative, laboratory, and greenhouse wings of the building. The program includes a dedicated greenhouse compartment and laboratory, greenhouse basement to support additional controlled environment growth cabinets and growth rooms. Accommodation of yet to be defined requirements are planned for the basement of the laboratory / administration wing. The prime consultant firm of A49/WSP A Joint Venture has been retained by PWGSC to prepare detailed design and construction documents for this Project. PCL Lab Solutions, a JV. has been retained by Public Works and Government Services Canada to act as Contractor for the project, under a Construction Management arrangement. Official bid documents must be obtained from www.merx.com and bid submissions must be done through the Merx platform TIMELINE: Prequalification for sub trade contractors has closed at the Construction Manager. Awarded trades will not be released for publication. Construction is underway and currently targeted for completion September 2024. *The project value listed reflects the package estimate.
