Renovation and addition to a mixed-use development in Creighton, Saskatchewan. Conceptual plans call for the addition of a recreation facility; and for the renovation of a recreation facility.
The Sportex has been the single largest facility in the Town of Creighton, with approximately 42,000 square feet, which allows for hosting of team sport events, such as hockey and curling, and different community gathering events and activities. To date, uses for the Sportex have dwindled with minimal activities occurring in the Sportex. In this regard, Creighton is seeking for practical approaches to increase or enrich the use of Sportex, while charting the basis for planned infrastructural upgrades and/or expansion, where relevant. In essence, the current attempt by Creighton to seek for innovative and sustainable ways to maintain, upgrade, or expand its recreational facility is one of such development efforts which is rooted in the principle of regional cooperation, with an emphasis to enhance a community-owned asset paralleled by increased engagements with residents in the region, including from the greater northern region. TIMELINE: Project is preliminary. A feasibility Study has been completed to date. Schedules for design, tender and construction are yet to be determined, pending provincial funding approvals (timelines unknown). Further update may be available spring 2025.
