The Halifax Regional Center for Education has a requirement for the construction of Outdoor Learning Spaces at all of its Elementary Schools. Tender #4131 Outdoor Learning Spaces Group 3, deals with 20 of these school sites The outdoors can play a critical role in the overall healthy development of children. There is strong evidence that when children and youth are outside or engaged with the natural environment, they are more likely to be physically active. Being physically active, and being outdoors as part of a daily routine, supports physical and mental health, maintenance of a healthy body weight, and motor skill development. Outdoor learning and physical activities also provide a sense of school connectedness and community and a sense of safety and belonging that is fundamental to inclusive education, while supporting academic achievement and student success. The outdoor classrooms indicated in this project achieve all these goals and will be accessible for all users The work of this contract includesthe provision for supply and installation of all ground excavation, ground preparation, carpentry work, materials, natural outdoor furnishings, labour and equipment necessary to construct and deliver a quantity of 20, Outdoor Learning Spaces - Group 3, across 20 different Elementary School sites All work is to be substantially complete (97.5% contract complete) at each of the 20 sites by October 12, 2021. Time is of the essence. Within five (5) days of award, the successful proponent will submit a Project Schedule. They will immediately initiate the shop drawing review submittals and mobilization on site to facilitate the commencement of work as soon as possible following award.
