Bridgewater Memorial Library 25 South Street Bridgewater, MA 02324 Bridgewater Memorial Library, built in 1882 as a Memorial to veterans of war, is a historic brick structure, slate roof and rich terracotta detailing. Interiors are characterized by extensive use of wood, namely trim doors, windows, wainscoting and two elegant ornamental fireplace mantles. The City of Bridgewater intends to repurpose this two-level ( main and basement ) building for use by the city's department offices and document storage, as well as for display of historic artifacts in the central space. Exterior restoration includes refurbishing of existing windows and other wood trims, brick repointing and minor roof work ( repair of broken slates / membrane roof over shed) , plus new ramp, walkways and dedicated parking. Interior modifications include a redesigned, code compliant stair and access lift, plus MAAB compliant toilets in the basement, painting and floor refinishing. In addition, MEP systems are being upgraded and a new fire protection system is being added as part of this project. The estimated cost of this renovation is $ 1.4 M. Anticipated start of construction is October 15, 2021. Anticipated substantial completion is June 1, 2022. MBE Participation 4.2% WBE Participation 8.8%
