Council approved a construction contract for $6,876,814.10 to Bay Ltd. and a $5,957,926.48 contract to Grace Paving and Construction, Inc., both from Corpus Christi, using funding from the Residential Street Construction, storm water, wastewater, water and gas capital funds. The Residential Street Rebuild Program repairs select residential streets throughout the city though rehabilitation or replacing pavement to the current city standard. Over the last three years, council has approved over $330 million for Corpus Christi streets, addressing 484 streets in need of repair, according to Mayor Paulette Guajardo. This year, the city will renovate 154 streets using $121.5 million. "We must understand though, all of our streets cannot be remedied overnight, but we are doing everything we can to move faster and fulfill that commitment to you," Guajardo said. City Manager Peter Zanoni added that there could soon be policy to regulate the way new residential streets are built so the city won't have to rebuild them in only a couple years. "New streets are being built every day in subdivisions," Zanoni said. "Soon we're going to be bringing to council new policy that would improve the quality and the guidelines on how those streets are built."
