Feeder Line Replacement & Storm Water Upgrades - New Jersey State Prison - Trenton, Mercer County, NJ The New Jersey State Prison facility was opened in 1836 and presently contains seventeen (17) buildings located on a 14 acre site in the City of Trenton. See Exhibit 'B' for the building names and location. It is a maximum security institution categorized as Security Level IV-V by the Department of Corrections (DOC). Inmate housing is primarily general confinement with segregation cell units housing over 1400 inmates. The Custody Staff and Communication Operators of the prison total approximately 780 employees and 450 non-uniformed employees. The Department of Corrections is seeking to replace the underground electrical feeder lines, including transmission piping and service manholes, and repair/replacement of the storm water drainage system at NJSP. Flooding in the manholes and poor drainage in the area has caused the existing high voltage feeder lines to be exposed to water and has resulted in corrosion of transmission lines and terminations. The existing storm water drainage system at NJSP is well past its usable life span. The storm drainage system is reported to have collapsed in several places that include the parking lots, allowing storm water to infiltrate the steam and electric underground configurations. The ramifications of not repairing the drainage system, in a reasonable amount of time, will lead to the catastrophic failure of the facility's underground utilities
