Site work, paving and new construction of a mixed-use development in Athens, Georgia. Completed plans call for the construction of a 10,000-square-foot, one-story above grade educational facility; for site work for a educational facility; sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.
The University of Georgia Office of University Architect(Using Agency) on behalf of the Board of Regents of The University System of Georgia (Owner) is soliciting responses from Construction Manager at Risk Firms interested in and capable of providing construction services. The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia ("BOR") as ("Owner"), on behalf of The University of Georgia ("UGA"), (User) is soliciting Statements of Qualifications from firms interested in providing construction management at-risk services for the construction of a project known as Project No. J-386, Multidisciplinary Greenhouse Project at the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia. This Request for Qualifications (RFQ) seeks to identify potential providers of the above-mentioned services. Some firms that respond to this RFQ, who are determined by the Owner to be especially qualified, may be deemed eligible and may be invited to interview and offer proposals for these services. All respondents to this RFQ are subject to instructions communicated in this document, and are cautioned to completely review the entire RFQ and follow instructions carefully. BOR reserves the right to reject any or all statements of qualifications or proposals, and to waive technicalities and informalities at their discretion. Question Submission Close Date 9/29/2021 4:00 PM EDT The start of construction is anticipated to begin in March 2022 The multidisciplinary Greenhouse will include approximately +/-10,000 square feet of additional headhouse and greenhouse space. Greenhouses are critical for developing new plant cultivars, optimizing yield-enhancing management practices, and understanding the fundamentals of plant growth and development. Today's research greenhouses are advanced plant growth facilities with precise environmental controls. New greenhouse technology allows scientists to conduct a wide range of plant production and management studies throughout the year. Currently, most of the units in the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences were built in the 1970s and '80s, using outdated environmental controls. This project would directly benefit an estimated 50 faculty members in Athens, as well as their faculty and graduate student collaborators in Tifton and Griffin. These greenhouse facilities are vital to the college's ability to remain at the forefront of plant breeding and to attract and retain top-level graduate students and world-class faculty to Georgia. CAES plant science is integral to Georgia agriculture and to the University ofGeorgia. At the state level, food, feed, fiber, and amenity crops contribute over 40 percent of Georgia agriculture's $13.8 billion farm-gate value each year. At the university level, CAESdeveloped plant cultivars generated 80 percent of UGA's $7.6 million licensing income in FY 2016. These greenhouse facilities are important components of the college's teaching, research and Extension efforts in support of Georgia agriculture. Faculty, staff, and graduate students in Crop and Soil Sciences, Entomology, Horticulture, and Plant Pathology, as well as the Center for Advanced Genetic Technologies and the Institute for Plant Breeding, Genetics and Genomics rely on them for their work. For all these CAES units, greenhouses are among the most important and most widely used research infrastructure, bridging the gap between research in the laboratory and the field.
