Site work and new construction of a municipal facility in Elk Grove, California. Design plans call for the construction of a municipal facility.

Plans call for the relocation of the Sacramento Zoo. The first phase of the new zoo is to include an entry gate, support facilities, animal exhibits, including a 23-acre African savannah area and a hippopotamus enclosure. Phase two is to include Californian animals, Asian animals, Australian animals and a great ape exhibit. Phase 3 would relocate the staff office from modular space (from Phase 1A) into an administration building next to the entry plaza, freeing up space for Phase 4. Phase 4 is Australasia and includes a wide range of species such as wallaby, Komodo dragon, red panda, clouded leopard, tiger and an Asian ape. Cost Estimate: Phase I: $142,300,000- $205,840,000 Phase II: $123,500,000- $158,100,000 On May 8, 2024, City Council approved the environmental impact report and development and design reviews. City and zoo officials will release their environmental impact report and prepare the finance plan and operating agreement by winter 2024. A design lead team has been selected for the project. An RFP for construction manager at risk could be issued later in 2024. Although a firm timeline for construction has not been determined, construction is unlikely to begin prior to 2025.
