Demolition, asbestos abatement and renovation of a municipal facility in Washington, District of Columbia. Completed plans call for the demolition of a municipal facility; for the renovation of a municipal facility; and for asbestos abatement for a municipal facility.
*As of July 19, 2022, a general contractor has been awarded, however their contact information has not been disclosed. The current Firing range project at Prettyman Courthouse is in basement of the building and fails to meet any current standards. The existing firing range is heavily lead and asbestos contaminated and unusable. The USMS request to have the Firing range approx. size 95 ft. x 14'-6"x 8'-6" high decontaminated and brought to a usable state as a warm lit shell suitable for office use. Remove all associated equipment accessible through mechanical room (see attachments). Remove all HVAC ducts associated with Firing Range. Remove all vinyl flooring containing black mastic. The project location comprises perimeter office areas and includes adjacent corridors. Existing offices, rooms, passageways must remain fully operational during decontamination of interior walls, ceilings, floor, HVAC and all ancillary equipment items inside firing range and in adjacent mechanical room. The Design Build contractor must visit and survey the existing Firing range and existing equipment. Provide architectural and engineering support as may be required to comply with USMS Publication 64. Accomplish code compliant design. Provisions of temporary protections will be required for any potential airborne pathogens in project vicinity. Temporary protections will also be required at HVAC and air circulation system. Abatement and disposal of hazardous materials shall be required as per testing by a licensed abatement contractor. Demolition shall include removal of asbestos, lead on walls and flooring. New work shall include provision of interior walls, doors hardware , lighting and HVAC (warm lit shell). Perform life safety analysis to meet GSA requirements. Revise sprinkler and fire alarm systems as required by code. The building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and project will comply with all Historic Preservation requirements. The project is a change in use of space: Existing Firing Range is to be converted into warm lit shell for future use as an office space. The project is a change in occupancy: Firing range space is occupied by USMS. After conversion into warm lit shell, space will be handed back to GSA and USMS will stop paying rent to GSA. $1-5 Million *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.
