Site work, paving and new construction of a civil project in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Working plans call for site work for a water / sewer project; for the construction of a water / sewer project; bridge / tunnel; bridge / tunnel; for paving for a bridge / tunnel; and pipeline.

The Yazoo Backwater Pumping Plant project consists of the planning and future construction of a large-scale flood risk management pumping facility designed to control water levels in the Yazoo Backwater Area when the Steele Bayou Drainage Structure is closed. The current conceptual design is for a 25,000 cubic feet per second pumping plant intended to manage water surface elevations seasonally, maintaining an elevation of 90 feet during crop season and 93 feet during non-crop season. The project is in the early stages of design, and scope elements and quantities are subject to change as design progresses. The work includes substantial site development activities, some of which have been partially completed under prior efforts. Remaining site development includes clearing and grubbing, establishment of temporary and permanent access, development of staging areas, and creation of government-furnished borrow areas. Additional contracts may be issued separately for initial site preparation and channel excavation prior to construction of the pumping plant. Construction will require excavation of intake and discharge channels with an estimated total volume of approximately 700,000 cubic yards. The channels will be armored, and excavated material may be reused for backfill, preload, or other project features including cofferdams and pump plant foundations. An approximately 800-foot-long access bridge will be constructed to cross the intake channel. The pumping plant structure is anticipated to be pile-founded and will house fourteen axial-flow pumps, each rated at approximately 1,800 cubic feet per second and driven by electric motors of approximately 5,000 horsepower. The scope includes the supply, installation, and start-up of pumps, mechanical and electrical systems, gearboxes, controls, and associated equipment, while the power source will be provided by the Government under a separate contract. The pumping plant building is expected to be approximately 200 feet by 500 feet and will include a 75-ton overhead crane. Additional structural features include formed suction intakes, pump bays, access tunnels, discharge aprons, trash rakes, stop logs, retaining walls, and associated concrete and structural elements. The overall project will be executed through multiple potential construction contracts, including inlet and outlet channel excavation, foundation and site development, and full pumping plant construction, each with significant construction magnitude and bonding requirements. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time. *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.
