The FVRD has received partial funding to replace the existing cooling system of the arena ice and re-capture the heat produced to disperse throughout the building and pools, and upgrade associated facility infrastructure, essentially linking the heating and cooling systems of the two buildings that make up the Recreation Centre. External funding has come from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program - CleanBC Communities Fund, with Project timing to start immediately and be fully completed by March 31, 2025. As per the terms of the funding agreement, the Project is required to achieve the following: 1. Replace the ammonia refrigerant with a safer alternative maintaining the same or better ice quality. 2. Integrate all heating loads into a single water loop that captures heat produced from the ice making process and re-uses it for heating the building, the pools, and the domestic hot water. 3. Upgrade aging components of the facility, such as the 44-year-old arena concrete ice slab, underlying piping, and refrigeration system including the following installations: o heat pump(s) and/or exchanger(s); o heat recovery and/or heating coils; o modular chillers; o piping, valves, and fittings; o thermal storage buffer tank; o replacement of ice slab; o under-slab thermal storage buffer; o water to water heat pump; o tie ins to SCADA system; o Addition of A/C to IT server room; o MCC panel; o Arena Seating; and o other related works and appurtenances.
