Site work for a playground / park / athletic field in Urbana, Illinois. Completed plans call for site work for a 45,000-square-foot, two-story above grade playground / park / athletic field.

RFQ submissions will be accepted in strict accordance with instructions in the Specifications. Selection of a CM will follow a QBS process and based on qualifications alone. All Contracts for the Construction of Public Works are subject to the Illinois Prevailing Wage Act (820 ILCS 130/1-12). Urbana Park District is currently renting gym space from Champaign County at the Brookens Center. These facilities are aging and no longer fulfill the indoor recreation needs for UPD. Therefore, UPD is preparing to construct a new standalone Health and Wellness facility to meet their growing needs and space requirements. After considering several sites throughout the City of Urbana, the Park District has determined that Prairie Park on Washington Street is the ideal location for the proposed Health and Wellness Facility. The building is intended to be situated between the existing sled hill and eastern edge of the property. Two softball fields currently occupy this location and will have to be abandoned to prepare for the new building. The site has been designed to maintain flexibility for building expansions and future development around the facility. The parking lot will be located in the southeast corner and will also include space for expansion. Islands in the center of the parking area will be utilized for a portion of the stormwater collection system whereas the remainder will be collected via bioswales on the northern part of the property. Future plans include alking trails will surround the building and will be connected to a larger network of walking paths, including the Kickapoo Rail Trail. A playground and sprayground are to be later constructed north of the facility, but are not anticipated to be part of this project due to availability of funds. The proposed facility will be a two-story structure with approximately 40,000 - 45,000 square feet. The program for the building includes a reception area, offices for UPD staff, locker rooms with shower facilities, restrooms for a future sprayground, multi-purpose room, two rooms dedicated to fitness and a variety of recreational opportunities, an exercise equipment room, one gym that can be divided into two high school basketball courts or four volleyball courts, and a track that overlooks the gym. Several grants have been procured by UPD to fund the construction of the facility and surrounding site. The selected Construction Manager will assist UPD in planning for the allocation of grant resources and maintain records throughout construction for purposes of documenting proper fund balances.
