Renovation of an educational facility in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Completed plans call for the renovation of a two-story above grade educational facility.
**As of December 9, 2021, project will rebid. Bids will be received for a Single Prime Contract. All proposals shall be lump sum Cleveland County Schools reserves the unqualified right to reject any and all proposals. furnishing of labor, material and equipment entering into the construction of 1) 2 Story Stand Alone Classroom Building - Exterior wall transition to roof deck air sealing. 2) Main Building Top Floor - Exterior wall transition to roof deck air sealing. 3) Small Gym - Exterior wall transition to roof deck air sealing. 4) Ground Floor Side Entrance - Exterior wall transition to floor air sealing. 5) Passive High Wall Vents - Blocking and air sealing the vents. 6) Vocational Building - Exterior wall transition to roof deck air sealing. 7) Auditorium - Blocking and air sealing the soffit overhangs above the exterior doors. 1. 2 Story Stand Alone Classroom Building - Exterior wall transition to roof deck air sealing (red line): A. Air seal the top of the CMU block wall to the underside of the metal structural decking with closed cell foam, fill top cell of CMU if needed. B. Air seal completely around all structural penetrations with closed cell foam including between parallel flanges of metal beams that pass over the wall. C. Air seal around any electrical conduit or other penetrations observed through the exterior CMU block wall above the suspended ceiling with closed cell spray foam. D. All exposed areas air sealed with closed cell spray foam shall be coated with ignition/thermal barrier as required by the NC Building Code. 2. Main Building Top Floor - Exterior wall transition to roof deck air sealing (green line): A. Air seal the top of the CMU block wall to the underside of the metal structural decking with closed cell foam, fill top cell of CMU if needed. B. Some areas will require a backing material as the metal structural deck was cut back to allow for the sloped asphalt shingle roof installation. C. Air seal completely around all structural penetrations with closed cell foam including between parallel flanges of metal beams that pass over the wall. D. Air seal around any electrical conduit or other penetrations observed through the exterior CMU block wall above the suspended ceiling with closed cell spray foam. E. All exposed areas air sealed with closed cell spray foam shall be coated with ignition/thermal barrier as required by the NC Building Code. 3. Small Gym - Exterior wall transition to roof deck air sealing (blue line): A. Air seal the top of the CMU block wall to the underside of the roof deck with closed cell foam, fill top cell of CMU if needed. B. Air seal completely around all structural penetrations with closed cell foam including between parallel flanges of metal beams that pass over the wall. C. Air seal around any electrical conduit or other penetrations observed through the exterior CMU block wall with closed cell spray foam or appropriate sealant. D. All exposed areas air sealed with closed cell spray foam shall be coated with ignition/thermal barrier as required by the NC Building Code. 4. Ground Floor Side Entrance - Exterior wall transition to floor air sealing (green line): A. Air seal the top of the CMU block wall to the underside of the floor with closed cell foam, fill top cell of CMU if needed. B. Air seal completely around all structural penetrations with closed cell foam including between parallel flanges of metal beams that pass over the wall. C. Air seal around any electrical conduit or other penetrations observed through the exterior CMU block wall above the suspended ceiling with closed cell spray foam. D. All exposed areas air sealed with closed cell spray foam shall be coated with ignition/thermal barrier as required by the NC Building Code. 5. Passive High Wall Vents - Blocking and air sealing the vents (purple line): A. Multiple vents (approximately 1 ft by 0.5 ft) penetrate the high wall area. These vents should be blocked from the interior of the building at the CMU block wall with 2-inch foil-faced Thermax board to insulate and block the openings. Use closed cell fire foam to air seal the perimeter and all seams in the Thermax board to create an air tight system. 6. Vocational Building - Exterior wall transition to roof deck air sealing (yellow line): A. Air seal the top of the CMU block wall to the underside of the floor with closed cell foam, fill top cell of CMU if needed. B. Air seal completely around all structural penetrations with closed cell foam including between parallel flanges of metal beams that pass over the wall. C. Air seal around any electrical conduit or other penetrations observed through the exterior CMU block wall above the suspended ceiling with closed cell spray foam. D. All exposed areas air sealed with closed cell spray foam shall be coated with ignition/thermal barrier as required by the NC Building Code. 7. Auditorium - Blocking and air sealing the soffit overhangs above the exterior doors (orange line) A. Install 2-inch foil-faced Thermax board to insulate and block the opening above the exterior doors to the soffit overhang. Use closed cell fire foam to air seal the perimeter and all seams in the Thermax board to create an air tight system.
