Demolition, site work and new construction of a detention facility in Anoka, Minnesota. Design plans call for the demolition of a detention facility; for the construction of a 263,000-square-foot, 540-bed detention facility; and for site work for a detention facility.

In 2018, an internal work group was formed, and the National Institute of Corrections was engaged to do a Jail and Justice System Assessment. The resulting report was provided in January of 2020. Based on this report, the County's jail facility is facing capacity issues and a variety of functional deficiencies. The Board has decided on a preliminary site plan and amended the contract with an architecture firm to being the schematic design phase of the project. This project may be halted at any point but continues to move forward. Initial estimates place the replacement of the Jail close to $234 million. The preliminary design to to begin 2027. It is anticipated final design will be completed later 2027 or early 2028. Construction then would start in 2028 and finishing by the end of 2029. The county anticipates to issued debt to fund the project in 2027-2028. The project's final cost has not been determined and the schedule can change at any time. As more information is discovered the budget will be updated to reflect changes. This is all subject to the board approval. Project is included in Anoka County Fiscal Year 2026-2030.
