Update:https://www.midlandtexas.gov/DocumentCenter/View/9786/Adopted-Budget-Book-FY2025-City-of-Midland Reyes Mashburn Nelms Phase I Construction (Baseball Fields, Parking) Project is included City of Midland Fiscal Year 2025-2029 Page no 70 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.beaumontenterprise.com/news/article/midland-leaders-vote-14-9m-renovations-east-18547260.php The Midland City Council will vote on a pair of planned improvements to Reyes-Mashburn-Nelms Park in east Midland. The city agenda packet states that the votes are for improvements to the baseball field complex, which includes installing new turf fields for fields 1 through 4, 5 and 8. The total cost to turf the fields would be $13.174 million, according to city documents -- $12,547,425 for the turf fields and $627,371 from contingency. Funding for the project is available in the unappropriated fund balance of the "Park Special Purpose" or oil fund, according to the city. In addition, city leaders will vote on a resolution to purchase and install LED lighting at the Reyes Mashburn Nelms baseball fields for a total cost of $1.757 million. According to city documents, Laurie Williams, interim community service manager, stated that MUSCO LED lighting has been installed in most of the city's upgraded fields and are superior in quality and the MUSCO company has a track record of timely service. Funding for the lighting project will also come out of the "Park Special Purpose" fund. In August, according to a Reporter-Telegram story, the City of Midland added around $20 million to what became the "Park Special Purpose" fund that was established to help improve parks around the city. According to a Reporter-Telegram story from March, a parks renovation plan for Reyes-Mashburn-Nelms Park showed four Little League baseball fields, four high school baseball fields, four T-ball fields and three U-13 soccer fields. There are also proposed pavilions, a walking trail and a parking lot with 862 total parking spaces. _________________ A detailed scope has not yet been determined.
