Wastewater Maintenance at Jockeys Ridge State Park The Provide an Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) with a current certification and license by the Water Pollution Control Systems Operators Certification Commission to maintain the Type IIIb 6,000 gallon per day (GPD) wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal system which services the Park, Park restroom facilities, and Kitty Hawk Flight School. The wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal system includes one (1) septic tank, one (1) dosing chamber, two (2) siphons, one (1) control panel for alarms only, and two (2) conventional nitrification drain fields measuring 1,332 linear feet (LF). The wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal system shall be maintained in compliance of the Dare County Health Department Wastewater Collection, Treatment, and Subsurface Disposal Operation Permit included in ATTACHMENT J: DARE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT WASTEWATER COLLECTION, TREATMENT, AND SUBSURFACE DISPOSAL OPERATION PERMIT 00075. A. Inspect the System with one (1) onsite service visit every six (6) months, for a total of two (2) onsite service visits per year. B. Maintain and operate the wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal system as a non-discharge system to present the discharge of any wastewater to the ground surface, surface waters, or directly to the groundwater. C. Inspect the septic tank one (1) time each year. The Vendor shall inspect the septic tank when the vendor is onsite to inspect other equipment. 1) Inspect for leakage; blockage of influent/effluent lines; structural integrity; condition of baffle and tee; condition of risers if present; scum and solids levels; and effluent clarity. 2) Remove solids from the entire tank before the solids' depth exceeds 1/3 (one-third) of the liquid depth in the inlet (first) compartment or one (1) time every three (3) years, and as otherwise determined to be needed by the Park and Dare County Health Department. D. Inspect the dosing tank two (2) times per year or one (1) time every six (6) months. 1) Inspect the dosing tank for leakage; structural integrity; condition of risers(s); solid level; and effluent clarity. 2) Remove solids when solids are removed from the septic tank and when the solids level is up to the pump siphon intake level. 3) Remove solids accumulation on the pump or siphon and floats by hosing.
