The Virginia Department of Forestry is looking for a contractor / applicator who has working experience and knowledge in performing understory basal herbicide treatment within designated hardwood stand on the Sandy Point State Forest located in King William County near West Point, Virginia. Application method and specifications may require the successful contractor to identify the species they are treating in order to implement changes as maybe needed or dictated by what's found on site. Contractor or person overseeing operations most possess a Virginia Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License. Work description: The work consists of treating one stand based upon the following specifications and as identified on the attached maps with treatment boundary marked with three orange or red vertical strips facing into the unit to be treated or via a road. Maximum amount to be paid for treating the area will be $4,500.00: Stand 04-010 - Hardwood Selection Chemical Release: Treat all sweetgum, red maple, and American holly (over one inch DBH) with a basal bark treatment to treat the targeted trees. Species of Oak are not to be treated and care taken to avoid damage to oaks. Chemical used shall be triclopyr based labeled for basal park application and applied per labeled instructions. Estimated acres designated for treatment are 18. Contractor guarantees vegetation treated in such a manner that at least 90% of the targeted stems treated via basal bark application are covered. Proper certification for ground crew is required, with oversight of a forester, having a Virginia Commercial Pesticide Applicator license, Pesticide Business License, and a Certificate of Insurance. Contractor's total Fee for the Services will be determined at a rate per hour rate for stand treatment for basal bark application / treatment - with a cap amount of $4,500.00 to be paid for this treated area. Gathered data indicates 1311 stems per acre of American Holly, Sweetgum, and Red Maple over 2 feet tall. The average tree of these species is 1.6 inches DBH. Only stems greater than 1-inch DBH are to be treated. Based on this, it is likely there are 900, possibly 1000 stems per acre to be treated. Quotes are for work with the Contractor providing chemicals along with a statement of chemicals to be recommended for use if other than stated. Contractor will provide Services in compliance with herbicide label and regulations set forth by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS). Contractor will maintain complete herbicide application records at the Site during application and for at least 2 years as specified by VDACS.
