Demolition, site work, new construction and renovation of an educational facility in Amherst, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for the demolition of a educational facility; for the construction of a educational facility; for the renovation of a educational facility; and for site work for a educational facility.

a. The project consists of a renovation of a residence hall. The building shall be constructed so as to meet all requirements of the Massachusetts State Building Code, current edition, in addition to all other applicable codes and regulations. The building site is approximately 20,000 square feet of land area (0.46 acres) bounded by Infirmary Way and Thatcher Way. The building site will remain unchanged. b. The renovated building, which will house UMA functions is a 4-story structure with walk-out basement, of Construction Classification IIB, for Use Group R-2. Functional building areas include sleep/study rooms, bathrooms, common spaces, offices and mechanical/electrical utility areas housing building equipment. The bulk of such mechanical/electrical equipment areas are located at the ground floor level of the building. c. The existing structural system for the super-structure is steel framing with precast concrete flexicore plank decking. The existing sub-structure is cast-in-place concrete foundations. The existing building envelope is a brick facade over structural clay tile, with wood double hung windows. d. The renovations include work primarily located on the 1ST, 2ND, 3RD, and 4THfloors.Bathroom renovations include complete demolition of the existing communitybathrooms, and replacement with individual bathrooms. The bathrooms will befinished with ceramic tile floors, ceramic wall tile and painted gypsum board wallsand 2'x2' suspended acoustic tile ceilings. Bathroom fixtures and accessoriesinclude wall hung toilets, solid surface vanities with undermount porcelain sinks, and stainless steel accessories. e. Base building heating, cooling, and electrical systems include the following: 1) The existing mechanical system includes a steam radiant heating system with steam radiators throughout the building. The exhaust system consists of roof mounted exhaust fans which exhaust air form the bathrooms and janitor closets. The new bathrooms will connect to the existing exhaust system with new ducts and fire dampers. Cooling in the building is limited to existing mini-split systems. Project scope includes replacing the exhaust fans The Minority Business Enterprise participation goal for this Contract is 4.2 %. The Women Business Enterprise participation goal for this Contract is 8.8%. Demolish existing and renovate to provide new restrooms in Brett Dotmitory.The work shall be completed on or before 08/05/2022 from the Notice to Proceed and in general.Estimate: $1,800,000.00. All Sub-Bidders must be certified by DCAM for the category of work for no less than the filed sub bid price and must submit with their bid, a valid DCAM Certificate of Eligibility of Sub Bidders in the trade for which they are bidding, along with a valid DCAM Update Statement. Every General Bidder must submit with their bid a Certificate of Eligibility available from DCAM along with an Update statement before the bid may be considered. Contractor: General Building Construction. Minimum rates of wages to be paid on the project have been determined by the Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development under the provisions of Sections 26 & 27, Chapter 149 of the General Laws. Wages rates are listed in the contract form portion of the specification book. Each General Bid proposal must be secured by an accompanying deposit of 5% of the total bid. Deposits shall be in the form of a bid bond, treasurer's or cashier's check payable to the university of massachusetts. Deposits shall be returned in accordance with the law. By one contractor, which are deemed to be unrealistic in that the price proposed is, in the judgement of this awarding authority, substantially less or more than the actual cost to complete all of the work specified in that section of the specifications will be considered as not responsive to the invitation to bid and shall be rejected. (department of labor & workforce development ruling #136 & #169). All bids for this project are subject to the provisions of either or both Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 30, Section 39M as amended and Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 149, Sections 44A 44I inclusive. The Awarding Authority reserves the right to waive any informalities in or to reject any and all bids if it be in the public interest to do so.
