This event is to secure a firm, delivered price for the item/items contained in the line details.Although the City tries to maintain continuous access to the GePS website, service may be interrupted. Therefore, suppliers are encouraged to submit bids 24 hours before the event closes. The purpose of this specification is to describe the minimum acceptable design and operating requirements for adjustable face vehicular traffic signal heads. These signal heads may be arranged in different combinations to provide vehicle signal displays in accordance with the Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The performance of the traffic signals shall conform to the latest published standard of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). All signal heads supplied shall be delivered fully assembled in the specified configuration. Three and four section signal heads, if ordered, shall be assembled in a 'stack' configuration. Five section signal heads, if ordered, shall be assembled in a 'doghouse' configuration and shall include all necessary bracket assemblies. Signal visors may be shipped separately to avoid damage. No signal head hanger assembly or device is required. The signal head shall be approved for use by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and be listed on the most current version of the NCDOT Qualified Products List (QPL). 2.1 The housing of each section shall be one piece, 100% pure ultra violet stabilized polycarbonate resin of the specified color (typically federal yellow, dark green or black), injection molded complete with integral top, bottom, and sides, having a minimum thickness of .100 inches. Polycarbonate resin does not contain any fillers. 2.1.1 Wind Load Testing: Wind load tests are performed to sustain a wind load of 25 lbs. per square foot applied perpendicular to the front and rear of the signal face. The applied wind loading is distributed among the three (3) sections for a period of 24 hours to ensure no more than 6.5 degrees of deflection is exceeded per ITE specifications. 2.2 The top and bottom opening of each housing shall have integral serrated bosses that will provide positive positioning of the signal head in five degree increments to eliminate undesirable rotation or misalignment of the signal head between sections. A total of 72 teeth shall be provided in the serrated bosses to allow the signal face to be rotated 3600 about its axis. The teeth shall be clean and sharp to provide positive positioning with the grooves of the mating section or framework. Each opening shall accommodate standard 1 1/2" pipe fittings and brackets. 2.3 Individual sections shall be fastened together with a coupling washer assembly composed of two washers, three zinc plated bolts, nuts, and lock washers which lock the individual sections together. The hole in the coupling washer assembly shall be large enough to accommodate three 3/4" cables. As an alternative, individual sections may be fastened together with four cadmium plated bolts, lock washers, and nuts. 2.4 Each housing shall have four integral hinge lugs, with stainless steel hinge pins (AISI 304 or equivalent), located on the left side for mounting the door. The 12" housing shall be equipped with two such assemblies on the right side. 2.5 Each housing section shall have a minimum of four (4) mounting points, two on each side, to be used to secure a backplate to the signal head.2.6 Each vertical signal (three or four section) shall have one (1), five or six position terminal block, located behind the yellow housing (second housing from the top). Each five section (dog house) signal shall house three (3) terminal blocks. They shall be, three five or six position terminal blocks located in the following areas, amber ball, amber arrow and red ball. 3.1 The door of each signal section shall be one piece, 100% pure ultraviolet stabilized polycarbonate resin of the specified color, injection molded complete with a minimum thickness of .100 inches. Polycarbonate resin does not contain any fillers. 3.2 The door shall be injection molded from 100% pure ultraviolet stabilized polycarbonate resin of the specified color. Polycarbonate resin does not contain any fillers. Each door shall have 4 brass inserts to accept stainless steel visor screws and 4 brass inserts to accept stainless steel screws for securing the LED module in the door. All visor and LED mounting screws are 304 stainless steel. 3.3 Each door shall have two integral hinge lugs, with stainless steel hinge pins (AISI 304 or equivalent), located on the left side for mounting to the housing. The 12" door shall be equipped with two such assemblies on the right side. 3.4 Door option: Removable Door with internal sliding pin allows for door to be rotated 180 degrees. 3.5 The inside of the door shall be grooved to accommodate a one piece, air-cored EPDM gasket providing a completely weather proof and dust proof assembly when the door is closed. The outside of the door shall have an integral rim completely encircling the lens opening to prevent any leakage between the door and the lens. The rim shall have four equally spaced tabs around the circumference of the lens opening with four (4) stainless steel truss head screws to accommodate the signal visor. No automatic latching devices shall be used. 4.1 A tunnel type visor shall be provided as specified. Each polycarbonate visor shall be one piece, 100% pure ultra violet stabilized polycarbonate resin of the specified color, injection molded. Polycarbonate resin does not contain any fillers. The rear edge of the visor shall be equipped with four mounting lugs for attaching the visor to the door. 4.2 The visor shall be designed to fit tightly against the door and the molded rim, completely encircling the lens opening. The visor and door assembly shall not permit any leakage of light between the door and the visor. The mounting holes in the visor shall be designed to permit the visor to be rotated and mounted in 900 increments. All visors shall have a downward tilt of 3.5 degrees, 100% pure ultra violet stabilized polycarbonate resin of the specified color, injection molded. Polycarbonate resin does not contain any fillers. The inside surfaces of yellow and green visors shall be painted flat black. The visor shall be attached to the door using stainless steel hardware. 5.1 No lenses shall be installed in the signal head. 6.1 No reflector assemblies shall be installed in the signal head. 7.1 When specified on the purchase order standard 12-inch LED indicators listed on the latest version of the North Carolina QPL shall be installed in the signal head by the vendor or manufacturer. 8.1 Unless otherwise specified, the center (yellow) section of a three or four section signal head and the top (red) section, the yellow ball section and the yellow arrow section of a five section signal head shall be equipped with a respectable, five or six position molded phenolic terminal block having quick disconnect terminals for the lamp receptacle leads and screw terminals for the field wires.
