The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (BCMOTI) is developing a Resilient Highway Infrastructure Adaptation Program. This program will expand existing Ministry infrastructure information systems and GIS databases and include impacting factors such as climate change and extreme weather events. Part of this program will be developing methodology to proactively identify, rank, prioritize and map culverts at high-risk to climate change and extreme weather for upgrading and replacement. This will include examining systems for collecting, developing and organizing information and using multiple-criteria decision analysis in ranking and prioritizing high-risk culverts. The system will be developed with GIS mapping technology and envision an automated system including data input, climate risk analysis, ranking and prioritizing and dashboard and reporting capability to proactively identify vulnerable culverts for adaptation. Thus, important infrastructure like high-risk culverts can be adapted.
