Renovation of a mixed-use development in Katy, Texas. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
https://communityimpact.com/houston/katy/education/2023/01/31/katy-isd-names-two-elementary-schools-from-2021-bond-package-approves-final-plat-for-construction-of-northwest-facility/ At a Jan. 23 school board meeting, Katy Independent School District trustees named two of the elementary school campuses affirmed through the 2021 bond after four former educators who are still active in the district community. In addition, trustees approved the final plat of land for a 257-acre northwest facility package approved in August 2021. David and Terri Youngblood are the namesakes for Elementary School 45, which is set to be completed in August 2023, per the district's 2021 bond webpage. Located at 25600 Longenbaugh Road, Katy, construction of the campus began October 2021 and will cost $35.74 million. It's designed to accommodate 1,280 students. Per a Jan. 23 press release, David Youngblood served as a teacher, a swimming coach and the district's first diving coach, an assistant principal and associate principal. He also founded the Katy ISD Summer Swimming Recreation Program. Terri Youngblood was instrumental in the development of Katy ISD's vocational, career and technical curriculum, per the release. She also served as Katy High School's Career & Technical Education department chair and as a sponsor for the Future Business Leaders of America. Terri Youngblood also taught ESL classes through the district's community education program. David and Terri Youngblood Elementary is one part of the northwest facility--which will also incorporate High School 10, Junior High School 18 and the new Northwest Transportation Center--for which the final plat of land along Longenbaugh Road, east of the Katy Hockley Road, was approved Jan. 23. The plat intersects the 257-acre land site, with the high school and junior high school situated south of Longenbaugh Road and Youngblood Elementary and the transportation site to the north. With its approval, the plat supports construction development of the facilities, per supplemental documents from the meeting. In total, construction of the northwest facility package is estimated to cost more than $300 million, per 2021 bond documents. Meanwhile, Elementary School 46 was dubbed Russell and Cindie Faldyn Elementary School. Russell Faldyn accepted a principalship at Miller Career & Technology Center in 2017, according to the Jan. 23 press release. Before that, he served as a teacher, assistant principal, associate principal, hearing officer, elections administrator and the district's director of community education. With a 32-year career in public education, Cindie Faldyn served as a teacher at numerous campuses and as a science instructional coach. She was recognized as a 2006-07 Campus Teacher of the Year and was also named the first Katy ISD Math Lead Teacher, per the press release. Russell and Cindie Faldyn Elementary School is also set to open in August, with construction costs projected at $37.62 million. The school is located at 25615 Clay Road, Katy. With a capacity of 1,280 students, its development is meant to support the growth in the northwest quadrant of the Katy area. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ https://www.katymagazineonline.com/post/katy-isd-plans-4-schools-in-3-years-to-match-katy-s-growth The Katy area continues to grow with businesses and residential development. Katy ISD plans four new schools in the next three years to accommodate the projected growth. "Families are moving to the District in droves, leading to a projected enrollment of more than 100,000 students by 2028," says Maria DiPetta, Katy ISD Manager of Media Relations & Multimedia/Spokesperson. "Despite this growth, Katy ISD remains a leader in educational excellence." All of these schools, in various stages of development, are funded for by the 2021 Bond. Welcoming Students this Fall The first Katy neighborhood to see some relief is Cane Island when Steve & Elaine Robertson Elementary (elementary #44) opens this fall. This new school will provide relief for Bryant Elementary and the students will still be zoned to Katy High School. Katy ISD names their campuses after namesakes unique and representative of the character the District hopes for the students who attend. The elementary soon to welcome Cane Island students is named after two long-time, former Katy ISD educators Dr. Steve and Mrs. Elaine Robertson. Other future schools in this story have yet to be named. Coming Fall 2023 Master planned communities like Cane Island continue to develop in Katy, especially in the northwest quadrant of Katy ISD boundary lines. The fall of 2023 academic year will see the opening of two new elementary schools (#45 and #46.) Both will relieve areas that continue to see much residential growth. Elementary #45 will be located at 25600 Longenbaugh Road. This school will answer to the immense growth due to the Elyson community. It will relieve crowding at Peter McElwain Elementary. A new junior high and high school will soon be next door to this elementary. Elementary #46 will be located at 25615 Clay Road near the District's newest junior high, Haskett Junior High. This school will relieve neighboring schools of crowding around King Crossing, Camillo Lakes, and more neighborhoods along Katy Hockley Road and Clay Road. Coming Fall 2024 The 2024 academic year will welcome two new secondary schools to the fastest growing public-school district in Texas. Junior High #18 and High School #10 will welcome students Fall of 2024. The two schools will be near each other with the junior high going at 25747 Longenbaugh Road and the high school to be at 7800 Katy Hockley Road. They will both be near elementary school #45 creating a three-school complex. The newest Katy ISD high school will also have a natatorium similar to that of Paetow High School. Elyson is a master planned community founded by the same developer as Cinco Ranch. The community is at 99 and FM 529 and has yet to hit its halfway mark. District projections continue to forecast this as an area of immense growth and these new schools will help to maintain the District standard. "Our outstanding academic record, dedicated educators and staff members, as well as our commitment to providing unparalleled learning experiences continues to attract families from across the nation, and even around the world," says DiPetta. Planning a Transportation and Maintenance Facility The District is also making plans to grow in more than just schools. As more schools are built in the northwest quadrant the District will need a new transportation and maintenance facility. The site west of elementary #45 and north of high school #10 and junior high #18 is under consideration for this facility. Katy ISD's website has its completion projected as December 2025 but this is still very much in the planning process. Follow the status of upcoming Katy ISD projects at their website. Katy ISD Board Early Voting Katy ISD welcomed its 90,000 student this year and plans to grow along with the Katy community. Having strong leadership is essential through such growth.
